1. What is Documentary Research?
Documentary research involves conducting informative searches, organizing data, arranging them, interpreting, and analyzing information related to the subject of interest. Sources may include books, archival documents, periodicals, audiovisual recordings, and other relevant materials.
2. Our Aceveri Documentary Research Guide
To easily understand the functionality of documentary research, we will detail how the search algorithm affects each field individually.
Step 1
Keywords - This field involves entering the name of the trademark to be registered.
Limit of similarity - The algorithm we developed has the ability to evaluate a similarity score between the searched term and existing brand names in the Aceveri database. The score generated by the algorithm indicates in percentage terms the degree of similarity between the searched term and each individual brand. For example, assuming a search with the term “Aceveri” and identifying a trademark registered at OSIM with the name “Aceveri Soft”, the algorithm would calculate a score of 60%.A special example, assuming a search with the term “Aqua” and identifying a trademark registered at OSIM with the name “Aqua”, the algorithm would calculate a score of 100%.
The maximum limit of similarity is 100%, searching for the exact term, example: “Aceveri Soft”.
The minimum limit of similarity is 40%, looking for all possible combinations close to the searched term, example: “Ace**** **ft”.
NICE Classes - The NICE classification system divides goods and services into different classes, numbered from 1 to 45. Each class covers a specific category of goods or services. When a company wants to register its trademark, it must choose the appropriate classes that clearly describe the goods or services for which it wants protection. You can see more details about NICE classes here
Condition of Classes - We assume that classes 1 and 5 have been selected. Once the classes have been chosen for the documentary research, the “OR” / “AND” condition comes into play. That is, one wants to search for brands that have at least class 1 OR class 5 or one wants to search for brands that have both class 1 AND class 5?
Status Active - Trademarks registered, pending or in dispute.
Status Inactive - Expired trademarks, canceled or lapsed brands.
Offices - Currently, documentary research can only be done within OSIM in the Beta version of our app.
Step 2
Summary - After filling in all the information and pressing the “Continue” button, a summary of the information and ticked options required for the final report will be generated. After reading and ticking the section with “Terms and Conditions”, press the “Confirm” button
Email - You will receive an email requesting confirmation of the request within 24 hours; otherwise, it will be deleted automatically.
Documentary Research Report - After confirming the email, the process of generating the documentary research report begins. Processing may take up to 10 minutes, depending on the complexity of each mark, word, similarity threshold and NICE classes.
